Eleven years ago, in June 2009, the survey team at the City of Ryde audited an area comprising 25 streets to ascertain the prevalence and availability of underground survey reference marks.
Two thirds of the underground marks were gone!
It was felt that the immediate need was to preserve those marks which were still existent. Metal cover boxes were trialled. This presentation firstly discusses City of Ryde’s attempts at preservation, and secondly discusses the state of marking of the cadastre for future surveyors.
