Applying for Membership
Applying for membership with the Institution of Surveyors NSW Inc. is the most important step in progressing your professional surveying career. Depending upon your qualification and experience you can apply for membership grade of Member (M.I.S), Associate (Assoc. I.S.), or Affiliate (Afil. I.S.).
Application is easy, simply:-
- Download and complete a Membership Application, AND
- Attach a certified copy of your degree/award testamur, (what is a certified copy?) OR
- Attach certified evidence of your eligibility to receive your degree/award.
Completing the application form
When completing your application form you will be asked to nominate your Membership Grade. These categories are based on your educational qualifications, and your post-nominals will indicate your Grade.
The categories are:-
- Member (M.I.S.) – completion of an an approved Bachelor degree in a discipline of surveying, or hold a Certificate of Competancy in Surveying, dated before 1 January 1988.
- Associate Member (Assoc. I.S.) – completion of an approved Associate Diploma, or its equivalent in a discipline of surveying, or if in the opinion of the Committee, your professional standing, by virtue of your knowledge and experience, is not less than that of a person eligible for admission with an approved Associate diploma or equivalent, or you are engaged in the profession of surveying and hold an approved qualification, equivalent to an Associate Diploma in a discipline other than surveying.
- Affiliate Member (Affil. I.S.) – engaged in the profession of surveying or other related field, and hold an approved tertiary qualification, or have at least 5 years of satisfactory practical experience, and are at least 30 years of age.
