The practices of land and mining surveying in New South Wales is regulated under the Surveying Act 2002.
To practice as a fully qualified land or mining surveyor requires a practitioner to be registered under the Act.
A registered land surveyor is able to subdivide land and lodge property survey plans at the Department of Lands.
A registered mining surveyor takes responsibility for surveying open cut and underground mines.
A registered land surveyor needs to have completed a four year university degree in surveying, two years practical experience and a pass in examinations set by the NSW Board of Surveying & Spatial Information.
A registered mining surveyor needs to have completed, as a minimum qualification, a TAFE Diploma and have three years experience in a mine plus pass oral and written examinations set by the NSW Board of Surveying & Spatial Information.
