What is a Surveyor?

Surveying involves measurement above, below and on the earth's surface as well as the planning & management of both natural and man-made resources. The surveyor is usually the first on the scene when any construction or development is planned: any road, town building, airport, mine or house.

For a surveyor, each day may be different: working in the city one day and perhaps in a rural area the next. The surveyor usually spends part of the time in an office and part of the time making measurements outside. A surveyor may be either a male or female.

A surveyor is a professional person with the academic qualifications and technical expertise to: -

• Practice the science of measurement.
• Assemble and assess land and geographic related information, and to use that information for the purpose of planning and implementing the efficient administration and use of the land, the sea and the structures thereon.
