The Institution of Surveyors NSW considers it imperative that it promote surveying excellence and the contribution surveying makes to the economy and community. Our award programs seek to identify, recognise and reward outstanding achievement, eminence in the practice of surveying, and conspicuous service to the profession.
The NSW Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Sciences Awards
The NSW Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Sciences Awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of the finest professionals and organisations in the country.

Institution Prizes
John Haydon Cardew Prize
The John Haydon Cardew Prize is made to the author of a paper which, in the opinion of the Committee, is of great value to the surveying profession and reflects special credit on the contributor either on account of originality or any special circumstances connected with the author or the paper submitted. Papers may be submitted for the award from those presented at a general meeting of the Institution or one of its Groups, submitted to the annual Excellence Awards, or published in either ‘Azimuth’ or a professional surveying publication, and the competition is open to all members and students of the Institution of Surveyors NSW Inc.
James Kirkwood Curdie Prize
The James Kirkwood Curdie Prize is made for a meritorious paper by a member of the Institution of Surveyors NSW Inc. that has been presented at a General Meeting of the Institution or one of its Groups; or a professional Congress or seminar, or published in either ‘Azimuth’ or a professional surveying publication, on any aspect of land or resource planning, development, management or use.
Halloran Fund
The Halloran Fund is not a specific prize fund, but it can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, prizes have been awarded from this Fund in recognition of services to the profession in a particular sphere.
Honorary Fellow
Elegibile persons are Fellows of The Institution of Surveyors NSW or a distinguished person (non-member). From from their position they will have, or are rendering conspicuous service to the Institution in carrying out its aims, or are pre-eminent in the science of surveying, or whom the Committee wishes to honour for conspicuous service or in recognition of an outstanding achievement.
