John Minehan

John Minehan completed a Certificate in Land and Engineering Survey Drafting at TAFE in 1974 and graduated from the Western Australian Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Surveying) the following year. In 1976 he became a Registered Land Surveyor in NSW, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Education from Sydney Technical College in 1978.

 

Since 1977 John has maintained his own practice in Warners Bay in the Lake Macquarie area.

 

After becoming the Hunter Manning Group Representative on Committee in 2005, John has become heavily involved in ISNSW, becoming Convenor of the ISNSW - BOSSI Cadastral Workshops, a member of the Surveying Practice Legislative Sub-Committee and a member of the Constitutional Review Sub-Committee.

President Elect

Scott Murray, BSurv(UNSW) M.I.S.Aust.

Scott Murray graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1990 with a Bachelor of Surveying Degree. During his studies he was the year representative and president of the Surveying Society. Scott obtained his registration as a land surveyor in 1994 and travelled through the US and Europe during 1995.

Upon his return he started the business Scott Murray Survey & Design Group, and soon took on a business partner to form Murray & Waugh at Miranda. In 2005 he merged with Boxall Surveyors at Sutherland where he is today as a director.

Scott was the chairman of the St George Sutherland Group of ISNSW from 2001 to 2008 and has been a member of the Excellence in Surveying and Spatial Information Awards Sub-Committee since 2006 and chaired the committee in 2008.

Scott lives at Gymea Bay in the southern suburbs of Sydney with his beautiful wife and two young boys.

Honorary Secretary

Phillip Hayward, FIS Aust

Phillip Hayward has over fourty years' experience in surveying and project management. He became a Registered Surveyor in 1968 under the old Articles system and holds a Certificate of Mediation and is an Accredited Certifier and Accredited Certifier for Strata Certificates under the EP & A Act 1979 (now Building Professionals Act).

 

Phil is Chairman of the Board of SMEC Testing Services - a joint venture between Lean & Hayward and The Snowy Mountains Engineering Corporation, providing Geotechnical Testing, Concrete Testing and Closed Circuit TV Evaluation of Conduits.

 

In 2005 Phil was appointed as a non judicial member of the general division of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, and is a member of the Disciplinary and Accreditation Committees of the Building Professionals Board.

 

Phil founded Lean, Lackenby and Hayward Pty. Ltd at Campbelltown in 1968.

 

In 1994 upon the retirement of Peter Lean he became Managing Director of Lean & Hayward Pty. Ltd.

 

Phil has been active in ISNSW since 1990. He was the Founding President of Macarthur Highlands Regional Group in 1990, the same year in which he became a member of the Surveying Practice & Legislative Sub-Committee, a position he still holds. Phil was ISNSW Vice President from 1993 - 1995 at which time he became ISNSW President, until 1997. In 1999 he became  Chairman of the Professional Surveyors Occupational Association Accreditation panel, a position he held until 1999. He is currently Chairman of The Institution of Surveyors NSW Benevolent Association Ltd.

 

Phil was elected to Federal Council in 1997, and became Junior Vice President of The Institution of Surveyors Australia in 1999. In 2001 and 2002, Phil held the position of President of ISA.

Honorary Treasurer

Bob Harrison

Bob has had 42 years of experience in private practice surveying, commencing with John B. White and Geoff Murray while at part-time University; with contract work for another 25 surveyors during the 70's recession.

 

Bob was awarded his Bachelor of Surveying from UNSW in 1973, also becoming a Registered Surveyor in NSW in 1973. Bob attained his Queensland Registeration in 1976.

 

In 1980 Bob established Harrison Friedmann & Associates Pty. Ltd. with Peter Friedmann, at Carlton.

 

Bob is a Fellow of the Institution of Surveyors NSW Inc. and The Institution of Surveyors Australia.

 

Bob's involvement in ISNSW has included undertaking the duties of Honorary Secretary in 2000, as President from 2001-2003 and has held the office of Treasurer since 2007. Other involvement in ISNSW includes being a member of the Survey Practice and Legislative Sub-committee since 1993 and is the current Chair of the Careers and Promotions Sub-committee.

 

Bob has been actively involved with ACS NSW since 1979, holding the office of Chairman from 1995-1997. His involvement in PSOA which he joined in 1994 has included holding the office of Chairman from 2000-2001 and 2007-2008.

 

He also holds membership to the Stormwater Industry Association (SIA).

Central Western Representative

Craig Jaques MISAust

Craig Jaques graduated from UNSW in 1987 with a B.Surv, and upon completion of his studies spent two (2) years surveying in the UK and Canada in the construction and mining industries.

 

Craig was registered as a land surveyor in 1993 and entered private practice in 1997 at Seaforth. In 2004 he transferred his practice in Orange where he continues to specialise in cadastral surveying.

 

Craig has been a committee member of the Central Western Group of Surveyors since relocating to Orange.

Mark Gordon FISAust

Mark Gordon graduated with first class honours in Surveying from the University of New South Wales in 1977.  He was registered as a land surveyor in the following year. 

 

Mark joined the then Department of Main Roads in 1974 and has been the Surveying Manager of the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority since 1997.  Under his leadership, the RTA has won seven NSW Excellence in Surveying & Spatial Information awards. 

 

Mark is a Fellow of the Institution of Surveyors Australia, a member of the NSW Board of Surveying & Spatial Information (BOSSI), Chairman of the NSW Surveying & Mapping Industry Council and a member of the Management Committee of the Institution of Surveyors NSW Inc.

 

Mark's work on BOSSI includes convenor of the investigations committee, an examiner in cadastral surveys and editor of the BOSSI Locations newsletter.  He is also Deputy Chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the surveying program at the Unviersity of New South Wales and a member of the Program Advisory Committee and the Industry Liaison Committee at the University of Newcastle.

 

More recently Mark has taken on the responsibilities of Assistant Congress Director (Administration) for the FIG 2010 Sydney Congress.

 

In 2000 Mark was awarded the ISNSW Halloran Prize for Professionalism, Insight and Leadership.  Two of Mark's particular interests are to encourage young people to join the surveying & spatial information industry and to help those already in it to realise their full potential.

Doug Gow commenced as Douglas Gow & Associates in Albury in 1987 and operated it merged with Coomes Consulting Group in 2008.

Highlights: 

  • Undertaking a diverse range of projects in regional Victoria and New South Wales
  • Road construction Highlands of Papua New Guinea
  • Australian Synchrotron Project - Director in charge for the design of the survey network and survey alignment of components at Australia's own light source, a complex task with tolerances of less than 70 microns, and a project which will not be repeated in Australia in my life time
  • Boeing 787 - project involved with the to inspection of tooling
  • 200 lot residential design at Coffs Harbour

Justin Kell MISAust

Justin Kell graduated in Surveying from the University of Newcastle in 1998.

 

On completion of his studies, Justin returned to the family practice, R.J. Kell and Co. in Goulburn where he gained his training to become registered as a land surveyor in 2001 

 

Justin is a Member of the Institution of Surveyors Australia, and an active member of the Southern Group. His interest in good business management has seen him complete various training courses and Justin actively encourages sound business practice in Kells Land Development Solution, established in July 2004 and amongst private survey practices within the region.

Stuart McEvoy BE(Geom)(Hons)UNSW MIS Aust.

 

Stuart McEvoy graduated with second class honours in Geomatic Engineering from the University of New South Wales in 1995. Stuart was registered as a land surveyor in 1998 and entered into private practice that same year in Sydney's Northern Beaches area.

In 2001, Stuart become a Director of CMS Surveyors P/L based at Dee Why in which he continues to work in private practice as a cadastral and engineering land surveyor throughout Metropolitan Sydney and rural NSW.

Stuart has been a committee member and Group Representative of the Sydney North Group since October 2006.

Matthew Hynes

Mathew Hynes has been involved in the Surveying profession for over 17 years. Mathew graduated with honours in Surveying from the University of Newcastle in 1998. He was registered as a land surveyor in 2008.

Mathew has been employed in both private practice and the public sector. He has been involved in major infrastructure projects and was awarded an Excellence in Surveying Award in 2006 for his part of works on the Lane Cove Tunnel project.

Mathew has been involved in the Institution for a number of years. Mathew is past chairman of the Young Surveyors Group. Mathew is now treasurer of the Cumberland Group.

A.H.W. (Bill) Kearsley FIS Aust

Bill Kearsley has over fourty five years' experience in surveying in the education sector. He graduated in Surveying from the University of New South Wales in 1963, attaining a Master of Surveying Science in 1968 and his PhD in 1977, both from the University of New South Wales. Bill is currently a Visiting Professorial Fellow, a position he has held since 2004.

 

Bill was elected to Federal Council in XXXX.

Grant Baker BSurv/BE Civil (Hons) UN'Castle MIS Aust

Grant Baker has six years' experience in land development. He graduated in Surveying and Civil Engineering from the University of Newcastle in 2001.

 

Grant is the Honourary Editor of the ISA publication, "Survey Voice", he is also the ISNSW website manager and manages advertising for its monthly magazine, "Azimuth".

 

In 2001 Grant began his career with Bathurst Regional Council in Central Western NSW, and manged Councils land development program.

 

He is currently employed as Director of Engineering at Blayney Shire Council.

 

Grant has been actively involved in ISNSW since 1997 when he was elected to the Hunter Manning Group Committee as the University of Newcastle Stduent Rep. Grant was Senior Vice President of ISNSW in 2005-2006 and is currently Treasurer of the Central Western Group.

 

Grant was elected to Federal Council in 2007.
